Biographical sketch: Italian, Bachelor and Master degrees at the University of Bologna, followed by Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and post-docs at Harvard and Washington State University.  Lectured at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and  professor at the University Zurich since 2000, where she became the director of the Institute of Systematic Botany and Botanic Garden in 2010

Lecturer and then professor at University of York in the UK and since 2007 professor and head of the systematic biology program at Uppsala University in Sweden
